Exile or War? That Is The Question War is not the only option we have when it comes to Iraq. There is now talk of support of exiling Hussein and the senior members of his government. However the only way this will work is with Hussein’s cooperation, not likely. I can see where it may seem like a good idea to push for exile, mainly there would be no war, saving many lives, and money. I would love to see the man driven from his country as he has driven so many natives from Iraq, fearing for their lives merely because of the fact that they were educated, or perhaps they were brave enough to speak out against the dictator. My advisor is one of these who fled the country. As an educated man he posed a “threat” to the regime, because as we know most educated people question things. So my advisor came to the U.S. where he could live without persecution.
It wouldn’t be the first time that a leader went into exile; however, it has always come with some form of cooperation from the ousted leader. Sadly I don’t see Saddam bowing out of his own free will. Coming from a man who has lied about the existence of weapons of mass destruction (16 empty warheads and counting), it seems like he would need some “friendly” persuasion to the tune of military action on our part. While I do not like war, it brings out a horrific side of human nature, sometimes it is necessary, and right now it looks like it is necessary. The only way the world will be rid of Saddam is through military action, because he will not leave of his own accord. So, I guess war is the answer, at least from my perspective.
