Speaking of Halloween Costumes Bitter... what's your costume???? I've finally decided what I will be for Halloween, well actually I'm not going to be it tonight, but tomorrow night at the biggest invite only Halloween party in the area. More College Coed Fun! Well maybe that title is a little misleading. But nonetheless, I have a *SHOCKING* update for all of you that understand the narrow minds in charge of educating our youth in the nation's colleges. This morning Spooky and I actually made it to class. At one point I think I was even awake. If in fact I wasn't dreaming, then the professor said, "American foriegn policy is very weird. Sometimes it even does something right." Now that I certainly don't agree with every decision the government has made, nor do I know as much as I probably should about foriegn policy. However, my one understanding of it based on the teachings of my professors is that it is ALWAYS wrong. Saving people? Imperialism. A more isolationist approach? We're bastards trying to see that all the "little people" are killed.

In my class I also noticed a girl with a very scary looking mug. It had pictures of women stabbing men all over it. Can I use the same complaints against that girl that the chicks at UNLV used against the guy looking at Maxim?

Spooky Survived She actually survived her 21st. She had a great time, and I just put her in the shower to help sober her up a little. I, on the other hand didn't have as much of a good time as one would hope. The ex was there. Of course the one bar we would pick would be his regular hangout. Granted, I did NOT know this going in there. Because after 2 years, he still refused to tell me what bars he frequented, for fear that I would go see him. However, tonight I said hello and was polite. Then I started drinking hard with Spooky. Of course we had another reason to as well. Two people who were supposed to help her celebrate backed out without really informing her. It was sad, but she's drunk enough that she probably won't remember. I'm not very drunk at all. Unfortunately. Oh yeah, and WeatherSlut is going back to normal.

Randomness So my one page response to Backlash ended up sounding like a blog post. Probably not good, but seeing as I skimmed the assigned 223 pages of the book and wrote the response in 50 minutes, I'd say not bad. Oh yeah, and I'm out of black ink so my paper is colorful! Maybe I'll post some of my complaints sometime later this week. Here's what my calendar is looking like: class, study for exam tonight, class, skip out early to take Spooky drinking, drag our asses in at 2 AM, go to class hung over tomorrow, work, interview, class, work, shoot guns, party, drink, get up for an appointment Friday, drink a little more, meet boys, class, drink, get up on Saturday, maybe have time for some blogging!, drink, then party even more. Score! In reading this Time article, I noticed a sentence that really stood out to me. Something that has hardly been covered at all. It was beautiful to finally see it.

The idea of gun control is so out of favor that Handgun Control Inc., a leading lobby organization, changed its name last year to the Brady Campaign and Brady Center to Prevent Handgun Violence.

Beautiful Women and BlowPops So cruising the NOW website yesterday for this post and this one, I did notice their headline story was something about sexism and television. I didn't read it. But CNN just put a summary up on their site. Wow, I'm so shocked, NOW is complaining. They don't like sexism. They don't like that beautiful women are on television. They don't like that straight women are on television. The problem with NOW is that they complain so much that valid concerns won't be heard.

It reminds me of this whole war on terror thing. Women's groups were pissed off that the administration "suddenly" gave a damn about women in Afghanistan. I agree that they didn't act like they ever gave a damn before, but whatever happened to better late than never? We all know that Washington wasn't really as concerned about women there as they pretended to be, it was a media ploy. However, if it did provide at least some improvements, can't we still be appreciative of that? In a bizarre way it's like last night. I got a phone call from the campus newspaper for a poll of favorite Halloween candy. I said my favorites were the little strawberry candies that are hard on the outside, but chewy in the middle. However, if when I went trick or treating I was given a BlowPop, I wouldn't consider it to be a total loss here. At least my situation has improved from no candy to BlowPop. And what if I miss Halloween, and don't get the candy until November 20? My situation is once again improved. It may not be ideal circumstances, but damnit I would have my BlowPops. Wow, I really think this is the most random post ever.

My Thoughts Exactly This post by Armed Liberal is great. I always end an argument when someone says that passing another law will just make people feel better. I know they are lost when they truly believe that. Unfortunately, my former roommate was one of those people. Too Much Estrogen Related to the post below, I checked out more of the NOW website, especially under the 'Issues' tab. I knew I had heard that they did not approve of a move to support more single sex education opportunities in public schools, but I hadn't actually read their release until now.

I was working on trying to dig up a page of notable alumnae from women's colleges that I could think of off the top of my head. The problem is that with my work schedule, and in between meetings with administrators today, I gave up on some sites because I wasn't able to find a page of alums quickly. I was actually given a project to do when I got to work this morning! We also have to do a one page response to the reading, so I think I'm going to have to include stuff like this in my bitching.

The revised 65-page report issued on Sept. 26 in time to influence the California election, states in the introduction: "This is action research with a social justice agenda. It does not profess to be unbiased or neutral." Thus, the report eliminates any confusion about its representing an objective evaluation of data.

And an even better reason to love NOW is shown here:

"Identify the parties responsible for the perpetuation of problems related to false syndromes, 'fluid' joint custody laws, evaluations and counsel for children. Establish the connection between those parties and fraudulent nonprofit continuing education and support organizations [fathers' rights groups]" and sue under RICO statutes for "conspiracy to violate the rights of women. ... RICO, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, was meant to fight against organized crime by allowing those harmed financially by a pattern of crime to bring action in state or federal court for damages amounting to three times their actual harm, plus costs. But CA NOW wants to use the RICO Act to criminalize dissent on custody matters.

Tragedy at the University of Arizona I know that many of you have heard of the incident yesterday. And I also know that many of you have seen links to the signs that say there are no weapons on campus. Haven't we seen before that students with firearms can stop a criminal? Back from the dead, some personal bitching then on to the good stuff. Well I'm back now. I know that everyone is now jumping up and down with excitement. I had a great weekend, though I won't go into details, and an exam on Monday morning. I had a package of chocolate covered coffee beans my grandmother sent me that I was hoping to save until finals. I had to break them out this weekend. Between the chocolate and the whole coffee bean, I thought a couple of those would keep me up. They didn't. Add a couple of Cokes onto that, nope didn't work. Why does the atmosphere at my school actually make me feel guilty for getting a couple of hours of sleep. I don't think I've slept more than 4 hours on a week night since about two weeks into the school year.

On the same note as school, the school yearbook from last year came out yesterday. The Bitches are very pissed off. I won't go into details because then it would be even more obvious as to who we are, but I'm really pissed off. Even the Bitches not involved directly understand why we are pissed off. (Well Classy might not be because I doubt she knows yet!) So now on to the better stuff...

Boys v. Men, Bizarre Links and Machine Guns I love the conversation going on about boys versus men. I was planning on responding to Preppy's comments, but First Bitch did a good job. I like her perspective more anyway. She illustrates that it's not even really about party affiliation as much as it is about knowing what you believe. If you really know what you believe, you can back it up. It's not even that guys have to agree with me, but they need to know why they believe something. Most of my best friends are democrats. I love my Green bitch. The only thing a man must agree with me on is the gun issue, but that shouldn't be a problem since I maintain that self-defense isn't a partisian issue.

So every once in a while I know that everyone gets bizarre search engine results that link to their blog. Our strangest so far? "barn yard porn freaks first" Apparently we are number five on the AOL search engine for that phrase.

So I was just forwarded this information about a Machine Gun Blast in Western Massachusetts. Any New England readers should go. As much as I would love to, I have prior engagements that keep me away, as well as a midterm on Monday morning. I love Machine Gun Blasts. Republican Boys, Libertarian Men I have to say that I'm quite surprised by Preppy Bitch switching teams, however, I can also see the logic behind her decision. Yes, last night was quite an adventure (and adventure I would have rather not experienced might I add). Unfortunately, I think I was forced to spend most of the time with the particular "Republican" gentleman (awe, screw it, he was a conservative ass hole) because he was too plastered to drive his car. Fortunately, I have dealt with situations such as these ever since I can remember, being that I'm from a small affluent suburb of Detroit, filled with obnoxious persons. Just because mommy or daddy is the CEO's of Delphi, Ford, GM, doesn't mean you have the right to step on poor people and minorities. Do you think its "cool" to brag about how your parents own sweat shops and employ 7 year olds in Ecuador? (This particular person wouldn't shut up about it!). I also might add that my life experiences with such breed of conservatives have led me to my current political affiliation with the Green Party. If all your life you have experienced only obnoxious, belligerent, incompetent, dumb witted, racist, elitist, ass holes, who continually assert themselves as conservatives then you might understand the logical progression of my political identity. Lucky for me I have made friends with such amazing women who defy the heuristic of the conservative that has been reasserted in my mind since god only knows when. I'm now beginning to realize that the breed of conservatives that I am accustomed to, are not true conservatives at all but bigots rather. Thanks to all my bitches for opening my mind :).....but I digress...

So as strange as it sounds, I have actually taken a liking to Libertarians more than Republicans and Democrats. Now some may say, well First Bitch, how can this be? Aren't Libertarians and Greens polar opposites on the political spectrum? Well, to that I say it depends on how you compare them. As Bitter has pointed out to me, we both believe in the power of the people to change the government and not to rely on the government to change itself. In addition though, I find that libertarians can support their political viewpoints, when compared to their Republican counterparts, just as far left liberals can usually explain theirs more effectively than traditional Democrats. So, my point is that it is of greater value to me that one is able to explain and argue effectively their beliefs than the content of the actual beliefs themselves. How can you wage any respect for someone who just follows party lines or can't justify their system of beliefs? I'm not saying that principle is entirely unimportant, but that sometimes perhaps we should consider the overall picture. So in conclusion, I would just like to say that I am very fond of Libertarian Men and I despise Republican Boys for the reasons mentioned above ;) (Sorry, I know you were waiting for something profound and the end there. Maybe next time).

Switching teams So just let me tell you how disgusted I am with the opposite sex. First Bitch and I went to a neighboring college tonight with a friend of ours and some of her friends. Well, let me tell you, if I have ever seen an embodiment of the stereotypical republican I saw it tonight. This boy was arrogant, sexist, and obnoxious. And my friend is dating this asshole!!!!! Then First Bitch and I go over to another party on campus. The boys here... not quite so bad as the afore mentioned asshole, but damn near close. I hung out with boys like this in high school!!! They act like it's beneath them to even speak to any of the girls and expect the girls (and that's what they are not women) to fawn over them, which they do!!! I thought I'd left that behind three years ago, apparently not. Actually I have to say some of the guys I knew back in high school weren't that bad. When do they ever grow up????? Well since I don't know the answer to that question and the only hope I had for anything man-woman isn't panning out.... so I've decided I either have to become celibate or switch teams. Any of you who know me know I can't go too long without, so it looks like I may be switching teams. What an absurd combination) I called my friend who lives in Maryland and she was really happy to hear that but I have to agree with my other Bitches-who could justify killing innocent people, innocuously going on with their everyday business? How? Perhaps there WAS more to those chemicals they dumped on our American soldiers during the Gulf War...

On to more Bitching...I'm very frustrated with my college right now...I love it, for sure, and I'm doing what I need to do, but I'm reading a novel about, where else?, New York City and I feel like I'm missing out on something big. And I mean BIG...Where else can you buy falafel for $3 at 4:30 am? Meet creepy guys from Copenhagen wearing fake leopard fur on the Metro? Rub shoulders with good looking (albeit horny...but even now that seems like a good thing!) men while drinking Tanqueray and Tonic? Alas, not here in the Valley! I getting the itch again, and I'm not talking about some disgusting STD. I need to travel and Bali was looking good until Al Quaeda decided to bomb any non-Indonesians to Hades and back...Bali has been peaceful (a literal and figurative island of peace) for years until some very pissed off Islamic extremists decided to go in and destroy this beautiful fragile culture because it was hosting some Australian football players. (Not to mention my Southeast Asian travel plans...now also in the same state of affairs as the previously existing nightclub.) Boys, Toys and Stupid Policies Today I got through my big project at one of my jobs. I'm so happy! One reporter that showed up for the event was really good looking. Of course he's not my type at all, but maybe I'll have to find out if he's taken on behalf of Spooky. He's totally her type.

Anyway, while I was busy trying on skirts and sweaters this morning, I noticed this story on Instapundit. What good would banning toy guns be to anyone? The only example they cite is this one.

In August, police fatally shot a man brandishing a toy handgun in Brooklyn.

How was he brandishing it? Was he using it to take hostages? Rape a woman? Mug somebody? In other words, was he committing a crime while threatening the lives of others? Even if that gun was a toy, if he made it out to be real in order to threaten the lives of innocent people, the police action was justified. (Okay, so I don't know details of this case. There might be questions for all I know, but I'm attempting to make a point.) If someone is threatening to kill me with a gun, knife, whatever (whether I know it's a real one or not) then I will do damnedest to get out of that situation with my life, even if it means taking theirs.

Also in the news, college chalking policies. Why bother? For one, I thought college was supposed to be about fun and education, in that order. :) What is the problem with a bit of debate taking place on sidewalks? If something nasty comes up, get some water. Everyone carries water bottles nowadays. At our school the year before I started there was a particularly nasty "Coming Out Week." It featured some reasonable content, but then a few people wanted to be very in your face. They drew pictures of female anatomy, and pictures of women having sex with each other (every graphic detail) all over campus with chalk. The administration asked ONLY that group to tone things down next year. They didn't tell all of us that we lost our rights, they simply asked that the C.O.W. (wow, now I know why they don't abbreviate it) organizers keep the message as more support or political, not so sexual in nature. The admissions student workers were then given buckets with water and a mop to go clean up the offending drawings because it was the day for prospective students to visit. No big deal. The C.O.W. organizers have done a great job in the years that I've been here. A few provacative slogans, but that's fine. We have a sense of humor, and we are all adults here.

Stupid quotes and the Princess I spent some time going through my notebook during my First Responder class tonight, and I stumbled upon two quotes by my geography professor that were notable in some way.

"Many people have less than two acres of land. Two acres isn't very much."

Now while I don't consider two acres to be much land, it certainly isn't a miniscule amount either. I think there was some kind of context to it that made it even more confusing as to why he was bitching about people having only two acres. Based on the rest of the notes on the page, I think we were discussing areas of India or some other country over near there. He put up a map of the area, but I never can understand what he is saying because of his accent. However, this exchange from the class is a classic example of trying to make people feel good even when they give STUPID answers:

Professor: What was the longest war during the 20th century? It took place in the Middle East.
Student volunteering to make a jackass of herself: The Gulf War
Professor: Well....not quite the answer I'm looking for.

Simpsons v. Kids, Celebrity Crushes and Perfect Men Well, actually it wasn't Baby Bitch's comment, it was mine. But that's okay because it looks like I have been challenged. Most of my affection for The Simpsons over Kids in the Hall is probably due to youth and my rural upbringing. Our cable system didn't even carry MTV because some in my area thought it to be too sinful. (Not that I'm a fan of MTV now, it's just a common channel in basic cable.) Though I have seen a few episodes of KITH, when I think of Dave Foley my first thought is NewsRadio. I had such a crush on him during the years that show was on. My celebrity crushes are always strange. Another one that I still have is Jeff Goldblum.

Anyway, back to comedy. KITH was also just a bit over my head when I did catch it in late night growing up. Now when I watch it, I think it's great. It just doesn't have all of the fond memories that I associate with The Simpsons. For example, JelloBoi is one of my closet friends. He and I both think that being a fan of The Simpsons is an absolute must for Mr. Right. We each need someone who can recognize the phrase "Go Banana!"

So speaking of elections, I have to say I'm a bit amused by my choices for governor in my home state. First off we have the incumbent, Republican from a long line of politicians, in fact his great grand-daddy was the 27th President. His running mate is a minority woman. His Democrat opponet, also an old white guy, is, surprise, surprise, running with a minority woman. Now then we have an independent candidate (another old white guy), who is really a member of the Natural Law Party as is his runnning mate (another minority woman by the way). And I really have no idea what that party is all about. Then we have a woman hailing from Cleveland and the Socialist party. Always fun, right? Last, but not least, is a teacher from the middle of Ohio running with a fellow educator, trying to teach their students that normal people can make a difference. Now the biggest issue for me in the whole thing is gun rights, and only one of the five candidates has any info about the concealed carry issue... and that's the teacher!!!!! So I may be voting for the write in, or I may be voting for Taft, because then Calley's daddy still has a job. I don't know. Decisions decisions. Well I better go study for a mid-term I have tomorrow morning that I just realized I had tomorrow this evening.

According the newly discovered gun nut from Vermont, the governor's race there is boring as hell right now. Of course he explains why it might not be after November 5. What really caught my eye about this piece was at the bottom:

Notice though that she garnered more votes last time around then the Libertairian candidate did. And didn't I mention in the "about me" link on the sidebar something about the crappy candidates the Libertarian Party always fields?

Until I came to New England, I never really saw a third party as an option in elections. Maybe it's obligatory in my college years that I now vote third party in most elections, but I still have to realize what this really means in different states. I'm originally from Oklahoma, not a state where a third party would stand a chance. (I checked the Libertarian and Green sites, there's one elected Libertarian in the entire state.) Anyway, after several years I moved to Virginia (Libertarians - 4, Greens - 2) where suddenly it might mean something a little more. Besides, even a vote for one of the two big ones will make little difference in Oklahoma. They think alike anyway. (And just as a note: when I do vote for a "big one," for an office this year, unless my mind is already made up for that office, my vote is going to Republicans. The Dems have 2 popup ads on their site, they just lost me with that. Besides, if they support the poor who are likely surfing via a modem connection, popups aren't very nice.)

Anyway, so back on track with this. I came to college, my vote doesn't get opened unless there's a close race anyway (absentee ballot) so why not vote third party? I have 4 parties represented in my ballot this year. The Libertarians here in New England were what forced me to take a second look at third parties. Maybe it's because things are so radically left (not liberal in the good way) in some states like Massachusetts that they are a serious and viable option. Vermont is obviously very different than MA, and they probably do only attract the nutcases. I mainly speak about MA because the party there has been so active. So yeah. That wasn't nearly as insightful as I was hoping because I keep going back to the party pages and surfing for the hell of it. Oh yeah, and before I get emails telling me there are more parties than the Greens and Libertarians, I know this. Maybe if the Internet Party ran some candidates, I'd consider voting for them!

What? Class? Oh yeah, that thing I should go to more than once a week. Yesterday Spooky went drunk, maybe I'll try that for my seminar this afternoon. I'd love to, but I think I'll be a good girl instead. However, this item caught my attention after being directed there by Juan Non-Volokh.

Ballistic fingerprinting. The arguments have been made by everyone under the sun as to why it shouldn't be done. Want more information? Email us and I'll forward you more. However, I was just thinking about how even a careless woman could change the fingerprint left by the barrel by accident. Aside from the fact that if she was smart she'd be practicing with it enough for the fingerprint to change over time, if she wasn't very nice to her pretty little gun then it could easily get changed. Imagine a woman's purse. For my other bitches who know me, imagine my purse. Let's pretend that this woman actually took care of her nails (and didn't just run to the salon when big events come up like me), and she had a nail file in there. Now let's pretend that said woman wasn't very kind to her gun, and she kept it in there unholstered. How long would it be before that file or some other foreign object made it's way down the barrel, potentially screwing with the fingerprints? Now let's stop imagining this woman because she's really mean to her gun, and I don't like people who mistreat their guns.

I've been up for 30 minutes already. Why am I up? You can see in the previous post that this means I've had less than 5 hours of sleep. But I have to think of an essay question for my 8:30 class. It is the price of admission to the review session for the exam that's on Monday morning. Maybe a good question is "What grade do I deserve and why?" Actually, that is a mean thing to do. I once had to do that at the end of the semester for a class. Granted, it was because the professor had only met with us twice and didn't assign any actual work. I couldn't give myself an A. I just didn't have the nerve to do it.

Anyway, thanks to somebody that obviously wakes up way to damn early, at least in the mind of a student, I found a kick ass pro-gun site out of New England! He's a "gay gun-nut in Vermont." I LOVE Vermont carry. Of course, the radical change from that to another New England state, Massachusetts, makes it so damn confusing for people. I know some people that won't even travel to MA because they can't carry, or even have a firearm in their car. You even have to have a license to purchase or carry pepper spray in MA. Stupid state. Vermont rocks. The only problem I have with VT is the fact that it's cold. I hate the cold.

I LOVE my Baby Bitch. I'm sorry, as much as the Bible Belt may try to save my soul sweetie, I'm loving this "sexually unrestrained institution!" It's been a learning experience for a small town girl. Where else but college in New England do you learn about dental dams on the first night you move in? Or where else but at this fine college can you see posters telling you that sex toys promote safe sex because you may avoid having sex with men if you buy one? For those of you on the slow side this evening, the safe part of sex with a sex toy (which at no time did they ever mention that toys can spread disease if not cleaned properly) means that you won't have sex with men because somehow men are the dangerous part of the equation.

The F Word question posed by Baby tonight is one I've been struggling with for years. When I left the Bible Belt, I was the radical feminist lefty. When I got to New England, I couldn't stomach the idea of being associated with the crazy Women's Studies departments on college campuses. I know several women's colleges that even have a Women's Center. Isn't the whole f*cking campus a women's center at those schools? I refused to call myself a feminist for a very long time. This year I am making an attempt to reclaim the word. I may be conservative on many things, but that doesn't mean I can't believe in liberty and equality as much as the next woman. I don't want to get jobs because of my gender that I can't change. Wait. I can change that, but I have no desire to do so. I was attempting to make it sound somewhat like an argument against racial preferences too (that one shouldn't be judged by something they cannot help). Anyway, I suppose that I really could change things if I wanted to, but biology has blessed me with some great assets that I want to keep. ;) But point being, after almost four years, I'm even more confused than when I got here. Yeah.

I have more to blog about that I picked up over the last few days. Some of it is even remotely intelligent possibly. However I'm dead tired since I've been working all day, and tomorrow is my longest day with classes lasting until 10PM. I'll try to get it in tomorrow night as I watch my favorite show in the world and eat dinner at the same time. Why shouldn't I be able to get in a good post or two as I do all of that in the 45 free minutes I have?

This sounds just a little familiar. I guess I'm of the opinion that if anyone is posing a threat to my life or person, I'm going to do whatever it takes to stop that threat. And I suppose a woman who is being beat by her husband shouldn't be worried about him killing her, after all he is an aquiantance, and therefore she should use non-lethal force to stop him, even if it is futile. This is somewhat of a touchy personal subject given that I now know there was some physical abuse within my parents' marriage.

I would like to take a moment to share my frustrations regarding this sniper who insists on killing people almost as often as I skip classes. I also believe this to be very relevant to our war on Terror. Honestly, I am a bit skeptical of the government’s ability to weed out terror internally and abroad when this same system is unable to hunt down one man who has now shot 11 people (all within a 50mile radius let me add) for the past several weeks. Come on! People are dieing here in the United States while pumping their gas, going to freaking* craft stores, or riding the bus to work, and we’re lead to believe that our military actions on Iraq, Afghanistan, or wherever are supposed to have any impact on the terrorism? Let’s take a minute to think about this for a second. Who are these terrorists? They’re not stupid! I’m assuming it takes some type of intelligence to fool organizations such as the FBI and CIA, organize an international network of terrorists, etc. Then again, maybe I’m giving the FBI/CIA more credit than they deserve…Don’t you think that perhaps if the U.S. is planning on striking Iraq that they just might pack up their shit and head out? I’m sure if they were even taking refuge there at one point they probably would have packed relocated to some inconspicuous place by now. If I was in their situation I can’t say I’d be running into caves to hide or even remaining within the boarders of such a country. Hell, at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the sniper was fraking* Osama himself! Billions of hard earned taxpaying dollars are being blown on this type of extravagant and inefficient military campaign. A little results please? I don’t enjoy all the smoke they’ve been blowing up my ass lately! I mean, maybe you like it, maybe it gets you off, but I sure as hell find it rather noxious! People are dieing of starvation, cancer, gunshot wounds, and what have you within the confines of our own country. And let me tell you…I bet Saddam and the rest of the Middle East is really shaking in their knickers watching this from their extravagant palaces. He’s probably thinking “Oh yea, I’m scared. These dip shit Americans can’t even hunt down one sniper. Perhaps we should send in a few. Jeeves, fetch me my rifle!”

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m as Nationalist as the next woman, but I’m not going to sit on my ass and consume all the shit spewing out of my TV set, blindly agreeing with every action my country decides is necessary to “fight terror" (or rather the great "leaders" of our nation). And I’m not anti-war necessarily…I just think if you’re going to be spending my money you better produce some results or at least give me a good reason to keep filling your bank account. I’m a poor college student here. I’m not going to pay for atomic weapons and fighter jets so you can play your little war games for daddy while I sit here and debate over whether I can afford to go home for thanksgiving to visit my family. Go have a freaking* bake sale…more on this issue after my Intro to Islam class (no, i'm not a Terrorist, I'm actually Catholic. Just a student interested in understanding how religion can be used to manipulate others)

Ahhhh....just another day in the life of a bitch. Today was pretty unproductive as far as school work goes. Somewhere between all the meetings and my everlasting Policy Debate class with "Enrique" I managed to suck up every last bit of energy. Too bad...I guess I'll have to go to bed early...

Although my day was pretty arduous, I WAS able to have a delightful phone conversation this evening…(First Bitch Sighs and gazes off into the distance as a recent memory transforms her frown into a smile)...If only I was able to end every day like that....Well, back to work. This homework isn’t going to do itself now is it? Go to bed early? Haha, who am I fooling?

Hey Classy Bitch, tonight I'm wearing the pearls! Literally! Spooky and I went to the gun rally, and I wore pearls with my jeans and boots.

So much that I could blog about at the gun rally. Can I just say, Chris Cox, Executive Director of NRA-ILA is HOT! He's got the tall going for him, and I'll take blonde hair. I normally like brown with brown eyes, but blondes are good too. (Interesting, I'll never admit that about my own experience as a blonde. I'm a natural blonde that hates it and colors red.) I've been single long enough that I don't really care anymore. Actually, come to think of it, I really haven't been single that long. But who cares because I'm ready to date again! Okay, but enough about guns or boys with guns for tonight. I'm too tired to deal with it. Oh wait, I do have one more thing to say about them. The BBC did their article in the last several days, but I won't link to it because it has my name in it. Anyway, it was POSITIVE for those of us who supported the right to keep and bear arms. Of course there were also quotes by those that disagree, but they weren't as good as they could have been. Even I have better anti-gun arguments up my sleeves. I really feel like I know this issue well enough to debate either side. I just happen to agree with one side, the RIGHT one! :)

I think I was far too amused by that last sentence. Spooky and I had a lot of fun driving home. On the way to the rally we called into a radio show just to chat with the host. It was fun. He actually talked to me on the air, too! Spooky and I may ask him out for drinks sometime. Maybe we'll ask people reading this blog out for drinks too. Anyone up for it? :) I don't know if I'm kidding or not yet. Drinks would be good, but not before my 8:30 class in the morning. Oh yeah, and I meant to send a BIG thank you today as well.

Is this a shock to anybody at all? Most of the times that I would like to have a public debate on my pet issue, no one will step forward to do it. We have people who will bitch behind my back, talk crap about me behind my back (personal attacks just because they don't agree), and raise hell on anonymous forums (yeah, I know, ironic). But when it comes down to the important, let's argue this in front of our peers and the world, suddenly they all disappear. The only people that might still be willing to step up are those that yell, scream and maybe cry for pity. No offense, but I do NOT want those kinds of people to represent my college. I'd like to pretend we have some sense maturity. However, even professors stoop to this level. The one that opposes me the most lies about me to other people (he doesn't know who is my friend and will tell me) and writes really nasty insulting articles for the campus newspaper calling me delusional and paranoid. Oh yeah, and he's in my department, so let me tell you how comfortable I now feel going to department events. I won't even take a class with him anymore because I don't want to be picked on any more than any other student. I don't feel like that's too much to ask, but I think he would be a more than a little harsh with his comments to me based on what he says to other students.

So right now I'm at work waiting on my supervisor to return from lunch so she can approve the press releases that need to go out today. This is the first press release I've written completely on my own, and it's boring. I'm better at writing about topics that could be a little more heated. I suppose it comes from my experiences with being a pro-gun woman in college, but I think I'm pretty good at handling 'touchy' subjects, and with providing answers that aren't completely answers but seem to be. Yeah.

Until I get the approval to send out this dreaded piece of crap, I'll blog about the weather. I was looking at the forcast on the Weather Channel when I happened upon a link titled "Vaction in Tornado Alley." Don't vacation in Tornado Alley, believe me. It's just bad. I grew up there, and I hate storms. I hate them.

On the third day of their trip, the group stopped for what looked like an organizing tornado. The storm didn't deliver the grand prize -- a twister, but it gave a spectacular lightning show.
"At first, I just saw the bolts, that we've all seen, but then when it starting spreading out across the sky, it was a sense of excitement. Some people got a little nervous, but it was just a beautiful sight of nature to see," Neuman said of the experience.

That was your warning. Don't go closer. Don't look for trouble where none need be found. But no, no...jackasses...

The chasers headed as close to the brewing storm as they could. Then, they waited.
Neuman's excitement grew. "Got the lightning coming now, this is what we came for. If it reforms and comes, it's coming straight for us," he predicted.
"We're going to wait for it to come down now, and stay for as long as they'll let us and maybe stay longer," Neuman hoped.
David pointed out the funnel that reached down from the clouds, but got a lackluster reaction from thrill-seeking Neuman.
"That's a pretty stinky tornado," Neuman said. (emphasis mine)
"It's a pretty weak tornado. I'm looking for something that's spinning and tight and coming right at us," Neuman added. "But, it's a tornado and there's debris on the ground, but it's kind of far away. I'll get a little more excited when it gets a little closer and we really feel the wind," he said.

Now some may think that I'm just a wimp for not enjoying a good tornado. But when you grow up as the only kid without a basement or cellar in Tornado Alley, you get scared. I was also raised as an only child, so those hours between when I got home from school and mom got home were sometimes a bit frightening during a storm. The one redeeming quality of New England is the lack of severe storms. Here I can appreciate the rain without having to worry about being chased by a f*cking cloud.

The senioritis has kicked into full gear, and now I am starting to get overwelmed by the backlog of work. I don't like going to classes anymore, and I'd rather not be at school at all. Between gun stuff, my acapella group, my fiance, and having a life in general, school just seems to take up too much time...hehe. Anyway, I did get off easy this morning thank goodness. My morning class was cancelled which means that I will have time to go pay the women at my new barn before I have to go to my afternoon class. I suppose I should go get dressed and eat something now, but don't worry, there is still plenty to bitch about later....hehee.

So I started a file called "stuff to blog about" when I see something that I'd like to talk about, but don't have the time or the ability to post here. One of the items is this post by VodkaPundit from a couple of days ago. The statement, "Hanging is too good for him" represents exactly how I feel about this crap. There is NO excuse for anyone, much less grown men and women, to act like this guy did. It reminds me of a case elsewhere in New England from about three years ago with accusations of rape. Suddenly there were several reports of men in ski masks jumping out of bushes and raping women in even the most public of places. There was even one DURING a rally against the rapes. However, in the end questions in the reports showed that in fact most of the reports were false. The woman raped during the rally? She actually cut and hit herself before running into the rally crowd crying rape. I'll find links for some of this stuff Monday at work. Were any charges filed? Of course not. How dare we hurt women's rights or something like that. At least they didn't claim it was "for the children."

Another thing to bitch about is the NRA sticker case that I'm sure most of you have read about at Glenn's blog or the Volokh Conspiracy. What the hell would they say about my car then? Or Moody's for that matter? Hell, what if our campus security acted like those cops did at the sight of my door decorations (targets, a Bitter Bitch name sign and political yard signs for pro-gun candidates from other regions of the country)? They would probably be raiding my room that I should be cleaning every single week. Would Spooky's professors have to call the police every time she took her notebook with the giant NRA sticker on it to class for notes? Another point that I want to make is that I am an NRA member, and I do NOT own a gun. I'm barely legal to own a handgun. I also don't have enough money after I pay tuition every semester. But point being, you have to wonder about how many other people this cop might have searched illegally based on their choice of speech on a vehicle that did not have the nerve to follow through. If there's one thing I've learned about social activism through the courts, it will likely take YEARS before you actually see any results. Even this case began in 1993, almost 10 years ago! About a year ago I wrote a paper on finding the "perfect" plantiff for social action cases, focusing on the most important quality of the "perfect" plantiff has to be patience.

I know this is somewhat inconsequential, however I feel the need to publicly announce that I will no longer be dating undergraduate men (or should I say boys). I must say that I can sympathize with the opinions bisexual and lesbian population on campus...

This past weekend confirmed my beliefs. Last night about seven gentlemen from a neighboring institution of higher education decided to pay us an unexpected visit. I'm not sure if it was the way they trashed our communal bathroom or how they were stealing bicycles on the way to the ATM that turned me off completely. Needless to say I was not impressed with the remainder of the evening and felt more like a babysitter for the entire night than a college student. So, a word to our fellow male listeners: Please, if you come to our campus, do not a) vandalize our property b) steal our property c) continue to traipse around campus lookin' for love in all the wrong places (after the party is obviously over) d) insist on fighting/drawing arms on other men on our campus. If you prefer to settle your disputes in this fashion, please do it elsewhere. e) As tempting as it may be, please refrain from pulling the fire alarms and/or stealing our fire extinguishers. That being said, I am going to finish "recycling" our additional beverage containers and hopefully get some much needed rest....

Wow, what a weekend. Football and guns. If I hadn't fallen asleep at some ungodly hour on Saturday then I would have enjoyed the other favorite college pastime, drinking. The football game that 3 of us bitches went to watch was terrible. The team we were supporting lost, and they deserved it. My team won 49-3 against one of the last teams on their schedule that could have beaten them.

Then, today we took just under a dozen women to do training for range safety officer certification. At the end of the day we all declared that size does matter. Letting loose on paper targets, aluminum cans and the tailgate of a pickup truck with a .44 magnum is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. It's so relaxing because with so much action, and the safety precautions that you MUST be aware of, there is no way that you can allow any other thoughts to enter your head.

I have some more to blog about in light of events of the last couple of days that I've been busy. But right now I'm in Preppy's room talking about boys. We like boys.

One more before bed. (Yeah, I know I didn't update as much as I wanted to, but some of it was behind the scenes work.) VodkaPundit posted a Friday recipe that makes my mouth water. Especially if his promises associated with it are true. Instead Preppy and I drove to the store tonight to buy ice cream. When no boys are around, ice cream and friends can make a reasonable substitute. :) I tried out the Godiva pints that are a fairly recent addition to the shelves. All I can say is God bless Godiva. It's cheaper than Ben & Jerry's and just as divine.

I was going through headlines at FOXNews and I saw one of the top stories was the possibility of Al-Qaeda teaming up with the Iraqis against the US. George J. Tenet, the Director of Central Intelligence, has suspicions that a common hatred of the United States might bring these two entities together. Now with the two groups being from different schools of Islam (Iraq's population is 60% Shia' and Al-Qaeda is Sunni) one would think that there would be some problems here as the two groups just don't get along all that well. But apparently there is enough evidence of "low-level contacts" between Hezbollah (another Shia' group) and Al-Qaeda to possibly make a Sunni-Shia' partnership feasible.

And when researching this I ran across a new travel advisory. I am so glad I decided to stay in the States this year instead of going off to Jordan for three months.

Well, I better get to bed. I have a day full of football ahead of me. I just want to give some love to my Buckeyes and a wish of "Good Luck" since we're up against Wisconsin tomorrow. This is one of the make or break for the Big 10 title.

College Girl Porn So Preppy stumbled across the Smithie Girls website today. I've met the women who run this site before. I thought it was an interesting idea, the only thing that I warned them about was the use of the name Smith. I don't know how protective the college is of use of their name. I do agree with Preppy on the question she asks about image being more important than tolerance and respect. Isn't that what college students love to boast about, their open minds that will tolerate any lifestyle? We won't even go into the reality of the answer to that question. But aside from all the serious stuff, here's my favorite part about the site:

So we had a meeting of editors this evening. After a mad dash to the liquor store, and then another mad dash through 7-11, and a mad dash through the drive-through, we came back to sg.com HQ and watched porn while discussing what else the site needs.

Maybe the officers of a club that I'm a part of need to make the meetings more like that. I think with enough liquor and at least pictures of cute boys, the turnout would triple. Maybe the other Bitches and I need to play a discussion of the website like that. Only I think we would have to leave out the porn because of Baby Bitch. We wouldn't want to corrupt our little first-year.

Ok, so I was directed to a web site which has caused some rucus on one of our college's chat forums by one of my fellow bitches . It's being labeled as "Smith Porn". I've checked it out myself and can't see anything wrong with it. This is a great site for an organization for women of alternative sexual lifestyles. What's wrong with that? Well according to one student on the forum she is "sure that site is doing a great service for the reputation of all-female schools everywhere." Where's the open minded attitude that is supposedly rampant on this campus? When did image become more important than simple tolerance and respect of other people and their lifestyles?

Wow. I leave for six hours and so much happens! We're all so excited by the links today! Thank you and thank you. Very much. We really didn't think that anyone would read this thing. It's still under construction, as should be painfully obvious. However, I promise to update quite a bit tonight. This also helps me feel productive before taking tomorrow off to go watch football and Sunday off to become a certified range safety officer. Somewhere in there I need to study for an exam on Monday morning. But I have a few things to blog/bitch about right now.

Football
Most of us that write for this blog are big football fans. I can't speak for the other Bitches, but I'm a fan of college over pro. ESPN.com is my best friend during this season (no offense to my ladies and boys that read this blog). It took me until senior year to realize how much I missed it. Like Baby Bitch, I too am from the South. I am going crazy right now over my favorite team's great season so far. I fully expect to be sitting in the living room of my dorm screaming at the television for the Sooners to kick ass or something like that during the national championship. While I fear they would not beat Miami (hell I'm shocked they beat Texas), I hope that Miami makes it this year. They've been screwed over so much in the past. I feel for them. But OU is still the best! :)

My Exciting Day
So the life of an undergraduate can be pretty dull sometimes. My exciting day included finally getting rid of the most evil paper in the world. After dropping that off, I headed over to check my mail where I found my paycheck (always a good thing, especially when you are working 13 hours a week between two jobs) and the Victoria's Secret Christmas catalog. Victoria's Secret makes me happy. They have a beautiful brown (or bronze in the catalog) halter dress in there that I plan to order for Senior Ball. I also found a couple of pairs of shoes that I want. One is a strappy sandal with rhinestones on it, the other is a pair of knee high boots with three inch heels. Those would be my "these boots are made for walking" boots. A reward for finally cutting off a two year relationship that was headed nowhere. The final exciting part of my day included going to Wal-Mart with Preppy Bitch, First Bitch and First Bitch's little sister. I bought ice cube trays. I have a wonderful new fridge, but they only gave me one ice cube tray. Now I can really have a party. :)

People are going to get tired of reading this soon enough, but I just wanted to share one more thing for today about this topic. I just had 12 people sign up for the range safety officer training! I am a firm believer that the one bridge between anti- and pro-gun people is education. If we can prove to those that work against us that we are safe and knowledgeable about firearms, then we can slowly begin to pull them over. (Right First Bitch?) :) So to have a dozen women sign up to become certified as RSOs, I'm just elated.

Vanderbilt
According to CNN, Vanderbilt is thinking of changing the name on one building to exclude the word Confederate. What the hell is so wrong with the word? Believe me, as a Southerner in New England, I know that some people have a hatred for the South that cannot be conveyed accurately in words. One friend here at school was told by another student that she should be ashamed of her heritage because a relative fought for the Confederacy. If her response editorial in the college newspaper was online, I would copy and paste it here. But here's a section of the CNN article instead.

The Tennessee division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy asked the court to block the private liberal arts university from renaming the building, now known as Confederate Memorial Hall.
In 1935, the United Daughters contributed $50,000 toward construction of the $150,000 building. The group, which has 25,000 members nationwide, claims removing the name would represent a breach of contract.
The group's lawyer, Douglas E. Jones, said the residence hall was built as a monument and memorial to Confederate soldiers.
"It's about history, American history," Jones said.

Now I don't agree with running to the courts to solve this matter. I can't really explain why other than I just don't like running to the government to solve problems unless absolutely necessary. A name change for a building is not absolutely necessary. Unless the United Daughters of the Confederacy provides a contract saying the building would always remain a memorial to confederate soliders, and that the name must always reflect that specific intention, then I just don't buy it. I attend a private institution. I work with administrators on a daily basis. I understand that these kinds of decisions are usually business decisions. If the building name brought bad press, which could lower applications or enrollment, then I would expect such a change. The fact is, while I don't agree with every decision my school makes, if it will keep the college in business, then I will eventually come around to it. I want my alma mater to be here in 40 years.
Another fact about Vanderbilt, I almost went there. I started the application, visited the campus and promptly ended the process. I could never live in Nashville. My brother does, and he's very happy there. But I don't do big cities. I like suburbs and somewhat rural areas. I want to see the stars at night. And Nashville drivers were the worst I had ever seen at that point. Of course, now I've seen Boston. That will send chills down your spine to drive in that city. They are evil, pure evil.

But, since he brought it up again, I thought I would make a comment on Erik Jaffe's post on the value of life and liberty. This is really cheesy, but I will admit it anyway. It explains why I am so caught up in certain issues of freedom. When I first came to New England, it was about 3 months before I noticed a New Hampshire license plate. When I read "Live Free or Die" printed on it, I cried. If I actually knew where the ex-boyfriend who was driving at the time could currently be reached, then I'd have him vouch for me. I really did tear up and cry for several minutes. Liberty is that important. Enough said.

Okay, I understand when people are willing to make some concessions of liberty for safety. I don't agree, but I understand. I also understand the fearful who are afraid of gun owners, and might use the DC maniac to go on a witch hunt. I DON'T understand this. This is the point where it's not citizens who are afraid or unknowing calling in the police. This is government going where it doesn't belong.

I got this information from Direct Action, a pro-gun group in Maryland. I don't know anyone involved personally, but my experience with state level advocacy groups in that region has been positive.

I will also add this note about members of gun clubs. I once took a friend who is very supportive of sweeping gun control, and wouldn't mind it if every firearm was removed from this earth to the range with me. As we packed the firearm back into the transfer basket, cleaned up the brass and threw away the empty ammunition boxes, she made an interesting comment. She told me that as she watched me shoot it had occured to her that any one of the gentlemen down the firing line from us could have walked over, put a gun to her head and shot her. But by the end of the hour, she also realized that these aren't the people who will do that. These are the people that actually follow the law. I simply said, "Exactly." That is the point. It's not the firearm that is the problem. It's the criminal element in society.

In today's terms, it's probably safer for war. Between technology, if used with restraint, and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, I'm thinking war might be the better option here. Ok, so it looks like 6 Palestinians were killed today in Gaza. All of them within their homes., because the "terrorist gunmen" (that is how the Israeli army describes them) or if you will the Palestinian militants opened fire on Israeli tanks that were in the refugee camp in Raffa. Apparently the gunmen like to use civilians for cover (that's wonderful isn't it) so the Israeli army decides to shell the general area of where the fire was coming from. In the process let's kill innocent people, great idea!!! But that's what the Israelis say.... The Palestinians account is that children were throwing rocks and bottles at the troops and that the gunfire heard was from mourners shooting into the air (great idea by the way, let's ignore all rules of physics) at a local funeral for a man killed in the same area. This whole situation is insane. Then we have the West Bank. Don't get me started there... you have a 15:1 Palestinian to Israeli population, and guess who is in charge.... I also have to add that it's a great idea to go through and bulldoze homes of refugees.... that's really going to make them not want to retaliate against you and hate you less. The world is f*cked up.

Well at least now we know that I can post about something other than firearms. But this reverts to the gun issue again. It's called Maryland's F*ck Up. I wonder what responsibility the leaders are taking. Oh wait...none:

I can understand not wanting to have a student disturbing others in the classroom. Maybe it's my experience with seminars, but when you are on break, nothing really matters. I have yet to find a professor who tells us what we can and cannot do on break. Was the website making noise or something else to draw too much attention to it? I doubt it. Even so, what's the problem? The professor does reserve the right to ask him not to view the page, but the girls were just being obnoxious. Would they complain about Comso? One of my ex-boyfriend's roommates took Maxim. Every once in a while we would compare a copy of Cosmo that I might pick up with that, and let me tell you that Cosmo is just as provocative. Spooky Bitch even had a discussion with some of her friends once that Cosmo should be sold to men with how much skin and sex they reveal.

What I find most disturbing is the fact that the university is punishing the student for defending himself. He didn't threaten or berate the other students, he simply stated his piece. I'm going to assume that UNLV is a public school. If so, then unlike private colleges, you don't give up your Constitutional rights when you attend.

Here's a quick post by Instapundit that I thought was a nice little thought. The idea: Go after illegal guns and those who are breaking the law with them!

The NRA supported this idea in Project Exile. What is Project Exile exactly?

In 1997, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Richmond developed and carried out an aggressive, innovative, and creative approach to this violence called "Project Exile." Taking advantage of stiffer bond rules and sentencing guidelines in federal court, all felons with guns, guns/drug cases, and gun/domestic violence cases in Richmond are federally prosecuted, without regard to numbers or quantities.

That's right, it's nothing more than actually charging criminals with all the crimes they committed. Wow, what a concept. Here's the *shocking* result:

Through these efforts, more than 200 armed criminals have been removed from Richmond's streets, one violent gang responsible for many murders has been destroyed, and the rate of gun carrying by criminals has been cut nearly in half. Officers now report drug dealers throwing down weapons before running instead of risking being caught with the weapons and a large number of homicides have been solved with information obtained from defendants in these cases. Most importantly, these efforts appear to be stemming the tide of violence, with homicides for the period November 1997 through July 1998, running more than 65% below the same period one year ago.

We have also discussed the project with other U.S. Attorney's Offices and/or local law enforcement officials in: Miami, Florida; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Rochester, New York; Oakland, California; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Baltimore, Maryland; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Chicago, Illinois who may begin similar projects.
